UN SECONDO BAR MITZVÀ A 83 ANNI

Tutti sanno che tradizionalmente un ragazzo ebreo raggiunge la maturità a 13 anni e inaugura l’età adulta venendo chiamato alla Torà come Bar Mitzvà.

Nel Libro dei Salmi, tuttavia, leggiamo: “Gli anni della nostra vita sono settanta o, per i più forti, ottanta”. Con questo calcolo, iniziamo un nuovo ciclo di vita a 70 anni. Sommiamo 13 a 70 e l’età di 83 anni offre al Bar Mitzvà un’opportunità di segnare la pietra miliare di questo felicissimo compleanno ed essere chiamato di nuovo alla Torà. Questo ulteriore Bar Mitzvà è una tradizione relativamente nuova, ma francamente le simchot non sono mai troppe, e perché rinunciare alla possibilità di brindare con un sincero e caloroso Mazel Tov?

A SECOND BAR MITZVAH AT 83

Everyone knows that by tradition a Jewish child reached maturity at age 13 and inaugurated his adulthood by being called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah.  In the Book of Psalms, however, we read: The days of our years are three score years and ten or by reason of strength four score years. By that reckoning, we start a second lifetime at age 70. Adding 13 to 70 and age 83 offers the Bar Mitzvah an opportunity to mark this most happy birthday milestone and be called to the Torah again. This follow up Bar Mitzvah is a relatively new tradition but honestly you can't have too many simchahs, and why pass up the chance to raise the glass with a sincere and hearty Mazel Tov.
